A Lenawee County Nursing Home with a History Of Care

We are privileged to serve as a nursing home to the elders of Lenawee County, Michigan since 1970, when Lenawee Medical Care Facility opened, under the direction of the Lenawee County Department of Human Services Board.

From the beginning, we have been dedicated to being the best skilled nursing facility in Southeastern Michigan. Because of this dedication to our residents and the skilled care they deserve, we have transformed the old model of a nursing home into a new vision with a cultural change. This transformation enables a nursing home to change from a medical model into a nurturing, thriving habitat that our seniors enjoy.

Our staff has worked hard to make this transformation successful, finding ways to express our commitment to the people of this community and to each other.

We are privileged and honored to have a compassionate and future-focused team of individuals leading and working with Lenawee Medical Care. If you have questions or concerns about placing your loved one in a nursing home, please contact our Admissions Coordinator at 517-263-6794.

Testimonials

Elder with her Daughter at Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian, MI
"My name is Melissa, my mom’s is Mary. Our L.M.C.F. experience is both personal, professional, multi-generational and spans decades.

I was initiated into the quality of care here in the early 1970’s, working as a nurse assistant. Then, I returned, after my nurse’s training, to stay part of the L.M.C.F. team. This began my 45 yr. nursing career in the best way - with employer quality and excellent care standards. Those very standards remained priorities throughout my career.

My grandfather was a resident at L. M. C. F. for many years in the 1980’s. I continued to see excellent care and compassion with each visit during those years.

Now, my mom has been under the care of the staff of L.M.C.F. for over 10 yrs. A blessing for her and for our family! In all departments , focus is on her physical, mental, social and spiritual well being. As well, our family is also well cared for, well communicated with and given access to needed resources.

Long story short - There are no words to express our gratitude and appreciation for this excellent facility and the staff who carry out its vision!"

Melissa & Mary
I’m writing this to inform those of you who don’t know about the gem we have right here in Adrian. It would be called the Lenawee Medical Care Facility.

What a blessing it is to know you can have a loved one in their care and they will be taken care of exactly the way you would if they were with you.

We just lost my mom, who had been a resident of LMCF for about seven weeks. From her intake to her death, these people in “Green Gables” cared for her like she was one of their own. From the aides to the nurses to the administrative staff, each of these people were kind, compassionate and extremely professional.

The highest compliment I can pay them is to tell you how much they cared about not only my mom but me and my wife, too. In a very tough time, they were the silver lining in our days.

Thank you can sound pretty insignificant at times, but not to those of you who touched my mom’s and our lives. We will never forget you.

Jeff O'Connor, Adrian
“Our mother has been a resident at Lenawee Medical for the past year. The battle with Covid that hit the United States has made things very difficult for our mom and her family. The staff at Lenawee Medical has been wonderful. They are very kind and loving and always keep us updated on any health concerns mom may have. We are grateful for the care our mom has received here.”

The Goodhue Family

I couldn't have picked a better place for mom. I love the staff here. I could recommend it to anyone; it is the best one in the county. I wouldn't put my mom anywhere else but here.

Deborah Smith
"If I go away and come back, I always say 'I'm home!' It feels like home here and always has, since the first day I got here!"

Shirley Moll, Elder
"I love it because you walk into the facility and everyone gives you a smile. It's so clean and friendly."

Wilda Craig, Elder
I have worked at LMCF for almost 33 years. I was first a CNA, then LPN, and now an RN in the role of Wound Care and Infection Preventionist.

I have always loved working here. The management is supportive and very appreciative. LMCF has competitive wages, awesome benefits including retirement benefits and opportunity for growth. LMCF offers Tuition Reimbursement to help further Careers and Benefits for our Elders.

LMCF has always been known as "The Caring Place" and continues to give top-notch care to our Elders, treating everyone with dignity and respect. I cannot imagine working anywhere else and am very blessed and proud to work here at LMCF!

Jeanette Smith, RN, 34 Years at LMCF
"I love working around our residents and making sure they have a clean and sanitary environment. The one-on-one time I have on a daily basis is an extra bonus that I always look forward to. LMCF has great employees that make this such an amazing place to work."

FAQ

Common Elder Care Questions

How do I get my loved one into your nursing home facility?
If you believe it’s time for you or a loved one to enter long term care, the first step is receiving a referral through the primary care physician or medical setting, such as a hospital.

A packet can be picked up at our facility or it can be faxed to the physician. If you have any questions about the admissions process, please contact us and we’ll be happy to walk you through!

Is there a waiting list for elder care?
Currently, the facility does not have a waiting list for long-term admissions.

However, this may change at any time. In cases where admissions requests are high, we may need to establish a waiting list to ensure we have adequate room to offer you or your loved one the best care possible.

The availability of short-term rehabilitation rooms does vary daily, so please contact the Admissions Department for our current availability.

How do we get a private room?
Private rooms are based on medical necessity and availability. In addition to our standard rooms, our facility consists of 83 private rooms for those with specific needs.

To inquire about availability of a private room, please contact our staff.

How will I pay for my stay at Lenawee Medical Care Facility?
Payment will vary depending on your insurance coverage.

Medicare: Medicare Part A or Medicare Advantage (i.e. Medicare plus Blue, Priority Health Advantage, etc.) will cover up to 100 days of skilled nursing home care. If you require skilled care (i.e. therapy) and continue to make progress, Medicare will continue to pay. Once it has been determined that you have reached your highest functional level, Medicare coverage will end. Medicare Advantage plans are heavily involved in your stay at the nursing facility and they instruct the facility when your coverage will end. Depending on the length of your stay you may be responsible for a co-pay. We will verify your coverages prior to admission and inform you of any co-pays.

Medicaid: Medicaid is the primary insurance coverage utilized by our long-term care elders. Medicaid coverage in the nursing home is very different than outside the nursing home. Because the majority of your needs are provided by the facility you will have a patient pay amount owed to the facility each month. This patient pay amount is decided by the Department of Health and Human Services, is based on your monthly income, and eligible expenses and will leave you with $60 per month for personal items.

Does Medicare pay for 100 days of skilled nursing home care?
Typically, Medicare will not pay for care for such a long duration at full coverage.

Medicare Part A may cover up to 100 days. If you require skilled care (i.e. therapy) and continue to make progress, Medicare will cover this. Once it has been determined that you have reached your highest functional level, Medicare coverage will end.

Medicare covers days 1-20 at 100%, for days 21 up to 100 there is a co-pay, which your co-insurance may cover. Please contact our billing department for questions regarding co-pays.

What is the Elder-to-staff ratio?
Our staffing varies throughout the week according to household needs and our shift schedule. We are always staffed above the state required regulations for staffing.

We take great pride in ensuring everyone in our facility receives the utmost care, which begins with our primary staffing policy of always having more than enough staff on hand to handle any needs or emergencies.

Do you have visiting hours?
There are no specific visiting hours. You can visit your loved one at any time! We highly recommend planning your visit between the hours of 11:00 am and 8:00 pm. This will allow you to easily check-in and visit your loved ones.

The front entrance is locked between the hours of 9:00 pm and 7:00 am. If you would like to visit during these hours, there is a doorbell that can be rung for staff to come let a visitor in.

Who will be my physician while I am at your facility?
We have a physician that practices at our facility to provide medical care during your stay. We also have a nurse practitioner and/or physician assistant in the building providing care 5 days per week.

Residents who require visits with specialists will travel to the hospital or the physician’s office for these appointments.

Upon discharge, your primary care physician will be notified and sent a discharge packet with information regarding your stay.

Can you accommodate a request for a special diet?
We work with all residents on an individual basis to meet their dietary needs or requirements.

One benefit of the dining rooms inside each household living area is the ability for the Elder to select from a variety of meal choices each day.

If you believe you or a loved one has a unique dietary requirement, allergy or other concern, we can accommodate their diet to ensure they achieve their nutritional needs.

Can I join my Elder to eat during mealtime?
Of course! If you’re visiting, you may bring in a meal to eat with the Elder.

Please keep in mind that our facility does not provide meals for visitors.

Can we bring our pet to visit also?
We welcome all family members for visitation, including your pets! However, please keep the following in mind:
  1.  All visiting pets must be on a leash.
  2. Our facility includes household pets that are beloved companions for those in our care and our staff. They are allowed to wander freely through the community, so we appreciate that you closely watch your pet to avoid potential disruptions within the community.
